We are waking up!

The boys are finally starting to open their eyes for longer periods of time. It is so amazing to see them looking around and checking out the world (for however much of it they can see). They definitely know when someone walks in their room and they can track people with their eyes. They look at you when you are feeding them which is just precious. They are smiling but not really on cue or in response to when we smile at them quite yet. They are also getting stronger and starting to lift their heads up and lift up their upper bodies when they are on belly time. They still do not have head control but they are definitely getting stronger every day. They are also really starting to fill out. In the last couple of weeks they have started to look down right chubby!

Easter and Updates!

The babies had a doctor appointment today. They are growing so fast! Michael was 7lbs, Konrad was 6lbs 5oz, and Zachary was 6lb 10oz. Every one got a clean bill of health but Michael has to go for a sacral ultrasound later this week because the doctor noticed that he has something not quite right and she wants to make sure that everything is okay underneath his skin at the base of his spine. Otherwise, they all are doing well and remain healthy. We had our first outing on Easter Sunday and visited Grandma and Grandpa Richardson's house, there are pictures below (thank you Aunt Angie for the very cute Easter outfits!)

Crazy week - March 11th, 2008

We have had a busy week. Zachary had to go into the hospital again last Monday. He got very dehydrated because he had a cold and nasal congestion and he was pale and having a little trouble breathing. Then on Tuesday, Grandma Carol and Grandpa Kurt had to drive me and his brothers through a blizzard (for real) to go get checked out in the ER because they were having some trouble breathing and they would not wake up to eat and they were getting dehydrated too. Michael and Konrad did not have to stay in the hospital and after the doctors checked their labs we were told to take them home and push fluids so they did not get more dehydrated (how exactly do you push fluids on a preemie that won't wake up...?). We finished in the ER at 3am and the blizzard continued outside so Mike and I stayed the night in an overnight room in the hospital with the two boys and Zachary stayed in his hospital room with Grandma and Grandpa. The boys looked a little better in the morning and so we took them home. We had to have all recruits on board to help for the next 3 days (thank you grandmas and grandpas) while Zachary was in the hospital and the boys were at home and daddy had to go to work. It was very hectic to say the least and we were all worried about the boys in both locations. Thankfully, Zachary came home on Thursday afternoon and we were all together again. Mike's birthday was on Saturday and by the weekend all of the babies were looking healthy again. They just have stuffy noses to show for their ordeal last week and even those are getting better.

We had a doctor appointment on Monday and they all got a clean bill of health. Michael weighed in at 5lb 5oz, Konrad weighed in at 5lb 0oz, and Zachary weighed in at 5lb 2oz, so they are all gaining weight very well. They are eating like champs and waking up every 3 hours or so ready to EAT and cranky if you make them wait! We are hoping that things will continue to be well and calm and that we can settle into a routine.

March 2nd, 2008 - So far so good

The boys are doing well and their mom and dad are getting used to sleep in 3 hour increments! Their doctor appointment went well on Friday, Michael was 4 lb 9 oz, Zachary was 4lb 7 oz, and Konrad was 4 lb 3 oz. They have been eating like little piggies ever since they got home and we are all settling into a pattern. Mike and I do feel a little like an assembly line and we are definitely having to write everything down otherwise we can't remember who we fed when and at what time they at last. In the first 72 hours we have gone through 126 ounces of breastmilk, used more than 74 diapers, had 2 overflowing diaper pails full of dirty diapers, and had 2 very full hampers of dirty baby clothes. We are tired but very happy new parents.
